It’s been snowing here for three days now. Today’s downfall started around eight in the morning and it has been coming down steadily all day.
Of course all this snow means hard times for the birds.
The robin is too big to use our bird feeder so he lurks below looking for seeds that the smaller birds miss.
Up above the feeder was being used by a great tit.
It’s quite easy to get these birds confused with their smaller cousins the blue tits (see here), but great tits are bigger and have a distinctive black stripe down their chest. This fellow wasn’t going to show me his though, so you will have to take my word for it. The markings on the head are also different.
My parents had great-tits nesting in their garden last year – we spent a lot of time watching them on the ‘in-box’ camera – fascinating stuff 🙂
It was the first time I have seen them in the garden for quite a while, blue tits and long taied tits are the most common visitors along with the blackbirds, jackdaws, wood pigeons and the robin
Hilarious title – well played. Now I must read more. All the best, Terri
It was too hard to resist
Incredible view! You’re an ornithologist and I only just caught on to that fact after so many years of reading your blogs! The title threw me for a bit but I see what you mean. 😀
Yes it was a bit of a ‘Carry On’ title
I saw a bunch of these little guys this morning. It always makes me smile to see them. Just about the cutest little birds around!
We are very lucky to have so many visitors to our garden, I’m looking forward to seeing the redwings who should be arriving soon.
